The NDIS can feel complicated. Here are answers to the questions we hear most often, and links to the resources that can help.
Frequently asked questions
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that provides funding to eligible people with permanent and significant disability. It supports people to access the services and supports they need to live a good life.
Am I eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible you generally need to be under 65, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and have a permanent disability that significantly affects your ability to take part in everyday activities. The NDIS website has a full eligibility checklist.
How do I apply for the NDIS?
You can apply by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or by submitting an Access Request Form. You'll need evidence of your disability from a treating professional. The NDIS will then assess your eligibility.
What is a support worker?
A support worker is a person who provides direct, practical assistance to people with disability. They help with things like personal care, community access, daily living tasks, and skill building, based on what the participant wants to achieve.
What's the difference between self-managed and plan-managed?
Self-managed participants control their own NDIS funds and pay providers directly. Plan-managed participants have a plan manager who handles the financial side on their behalf. Both can access Sunflower Care Solutions.
Can I choose my own support worker?
Yes. Choice and control is a core principle of the NDIS. We take matching seriously and will work with you to find a support worker who fits your needs, personality, and preferences.
What if I'm not happy with my support?
We want to know. Please speak to us directly first. We'll do everything we can to resolve the issue. You also have the right to raise concerns with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission at any time.
Do you work with NDIA-managed participants?
Not currently. We work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. If you're NDIA-managed and would like to explore your options, speak to your support coordinator or the NDIS.
